A NOD BETWEEN TWO BATWANS…
Hello dear friends of Lola’s Garden Jam!
Today we’d like to share a little story that made us smile. On the other side of the world, there is a French racehorse that carries exactly the same name as our Batwan Puree: Batwan, a grey (now) gelding born in 2015, who is still competing at the remarkable age of 11.

A true sprinter, he wasn’t the most expensive yearling and never became an international superstar, but he has built a career full of heart. He won the Prix de Saint-Georges (Group 3) in 2020, achieved numerous placings in Group races, and above all, he continues to run with courage, generosity and remarkable consistency. Year after year, he gives everything on the track.
This story resonates deeply with us, because our Batwan Puree shares a similar spirit. It comes from humble, authentic batwan fruits grown in Negros Occidental. We pick them at the right moment of maturity and transform them simply and carefully into pouches, without any chemical preservatives or artificial additives. The result is a pure, powerful, tangy flavor that enhances kansi, sinigang, bulalo, lumpia,… and many other traditional Filipino dishes.
In a fast-paced world where everything is often disposable and where we tend to favour the new and flashy, these two Batwans remind us of the quiet beauty of authenticity, perseverance and longevity. There’s something touching about things — or beings — that simply keep going, staying true to what they are.
Tonight, when you open one of our pouches to prepare a comforting homemade meal, perhaps you’ll think of that little grey French horse still running under the colours of his trainer. Two very different worlds and cultures, yet the same values: honesty, resilience, and the pleasure of things that last.
